I know that today is far from a max effort deadlift, but the video below is still applicable to what we’re doing today.
We often talk about keeping the bar close to the body as well as moving it in as straight a line as possible. Take a look at the video as Big Chris sets up on the bar. Notice how he sets his feet up UNDER the bar to get it close to his body. As he begins to pull the bar nearly drags up his shins and thighs while moving straight up.
It’s true that he’s picking up 915lbs and that much weight is simply not going to go anywhere if it has to shift an inch forward or backward. But keep in mind that we can all learn from this efficiency as we’re moving weight. Think about how that deadlift is going to feel on rep 9 of round 5. It might not feel like 915lbs but it likely won’t feel very light either.
