Quite appropriately, I saw this commercial at a movie theater. I thought it was pretty brilliant and hit the nail on the head (it’s just too bad that it’s an ad for Weight Watchers). We tend to use food as a means to celebrate, console and self medicate which can lead to eating a lot of crappy foods for many different reasons. The more aware we are of this tendency, the better the odds of breaking or avoiding it. Practicing a little mindfulness when eating can help to identify the times when you are using food for non-nutritive means. Next time you find yourself heading for the kitchen, take a moment, maybe a few deep breaths and assess if you are  actually hungry and when you are really just bored, tired or stressed out.
