Where does that ever elusive six pack come from?  It has very little to do with how much muscle you have in your mid-section, though that is a part of the equation. It has much more to do with your nutrition (or lack thereof).

While it may seem intuitive that if you want to lose weight in a certain area of your body you should train that part, that is NOT how the body works. When there is an excess of energy in the body (caused by poor food choices) the body stores it wherever it wants to. This depends largely on genetics.

The opposite is also true however. When the body needs to burn excess energy it takes it from wherever it wants to, and this choice the body makes is also determined by genetics.

So the next time you’re thinking about hitting an extra couple hundred sit ups to work on your summer six pack, think again. Think about the dinner you had last night and that extra scoop of summer ice-cream you’re planning on tonight and think again if the six pack is really a goal of yours.
