The last few blog posts have addressed the issue of image, both how we perceive ourselves and how pop culture tells what we should look like. These are issues that both men and women struggle with on a daily basis and I want to make sure that we, as a CrossFit community and as coaches, aren’t perpetuating another type of unrealistic body image, simply replacing the emaciated waif with a muscular, six-pack version. Very few of us are going to look like Camille or Rich. Period. In fact, very few of us have the time, dedication and genetic make up to achieve that kind of physique. But we all posses the ability to become the best possible versions of ourselves. Embrace the positive changes you have made and celebrate all of the accomplishments you have achieved, in and out of the gym. The CrossFit studs and firebreathers are great inspiration, but don’t ever let yourself feel inadequate because you don’t look like them or have a sub 2 minute “Fran.”
