Tune in, set your DVR or program your TiVo for tonight’s episode of The Biggest Loser. Typically we would not encourage anyone to watch this show, unless you are playing some kind of drinking game where everyone takes a shot when a contestant throws up or falls off a treadmill. However, the tides have slowly (and not so subtlety) been turning as Bob Harper has let his love for CrossFit show, even sporting clothing from Life as Rx and Rogue. During the last few seasons, Bob has been incorporating more functional movements into the contestants’ daily workout plan, going so far as to having them do “Fran,” a huge departure from the previous seasons of monotonous treadmill and bicep curl routines. Tonight’s episode will feature some of CrossFit’s biggest names, like Kristan Clever, Jason Khalipa and Matt Chan, all working out and coaching contestants.
So why is this such a big deal? We’re excited about this not because CrossFit is making it’s prime time debut but because it is being featured on The Biggest Loser, a TV show that millions of people tune-in to all over the country to draw inspiration to make positive life changes. Can you imagine what a great example this will be that CrossFit really is for everybody? How many friends or family members do you have that you know would love CrossFit, but are too intimidated to try? Or are waiting to “get in shape” before they start? I can’t think of a better demonstration of how scalable CrossFit is than having people who are as out of shape and deconditioned as it gets go through WODs. Invite all those people who keep asking you about CrossFit but are too nervous to commit over for dinner and a TV show. You’ll totally impress them when you drop some major knowledge about CrossFit the athletes on tonight’s episode.
